Start-ups aim to change the car battery recycling industry
Analysts and experts suggest that the new technologies are promising but it is too early to say if any of them are commercially viable on a large scale. Plus its effect on the environment plays a vital role too, as Green Cross Switzerland has said lead battery recycling is the most polluting industry in the world. Well here are some startups aiming to clean up the world's most polluting industry:- ACE Green Recycling is one of the first to bring a new recycling technology to market, here lead components from scrap batteries are refined into briquettes, and cast into ingots, and sold to battery manufacturers. Luminous Power Technologies provides ACE Green with more than 200 tonnes per month of used batteries, which ACE said turns into 120-130 tonnes of lead and sells back to the firm. Nasdaq-listed Aqua Metals:- here they use water-based solvents to recycle used batteries to produce refined lead, Ola Hekselman has been working on proprietary solvents and chemical processes to extract lead from batteries. He has co-founded a company called Solveteq and aims to commercialize the technology in the next 2-3 years. Source :
