7 Day Internship on Automotive Dynamics & Designing
ABOUT THE COURSE
It is an intensive course in which we will you will learn about Static of Automobile Engineering, & Dynamic Balancing of subsystems of race vehicles.
Course curriculum designed and guided by our reputed experts from Formula 1 and Automotive companies like Polaris, Ashok Leyland, Tata, Mahindra etc.
DAY WISE SCHEDULE
Day 1: Automobile Static Engineering
In this part we will be discussing static parts of automobile that how each and every component works:
Steering system - Hydraulic power steering, Electric steering, Worm & Sector, Four wheels turning
Engine working and fundamentals - Square engines, V cylinder engines, Power-Economy relations
Fundamentals of chassis design - Tub chassis (recently used by koenigsegg Agera R), Formula-1 chassis, sports & passenger car chassis, torsional rigidity of chassis
Suspension system - Double wishbone suspension, Solid Axle suspension, Hotchkiss suspensions, 2 Four-Link suspensions, De Dion suspensions, Air suspension, MacPherson suspension
Braking system - Hydraulic braking, Wedge braking, Power assistance braking, ABS with EBD
Types of subsystems: Chassis, Braking, Steering, Suspension and their disadvantages and advantages
Day 2 to 4: Automobile Dynamics
In this part we will be discussing dynamics of automobile in deep and discuss the following:
Linear roll generation, Diagonal load transfer, Lateral load transfer, Linear acceleration, Centrifugal acceleration
Linear de-acceleration, Roll center, Roll axis, Roll movement, Spring rate of tire, Self-aligning torque, Driveline torque
Engine electronics, Engine fuels, Various type of efficiencies
Super charging of engine, Types & Methods of super chargers
Engine emission control methods, Engine emission norms
How to balance all the components of a car
Steering dynamics for designing & balancing of a race and off-road vehicle
Braking performance parameters - balancing of brakes for a race and off-road vehicle
Suspension, Spring types and calculations, Dampers, Single tube dampers, Vehicle ride & handling, Roll gradient, Anti-roll bar stiffness, Damping curve, Critical damping roll center calculations for different type of suspensions, Wheel rate, Motion ratio, Frequency calculations
Transmission matching, Selecting the Engine Size and Final drive ratio for maximum speed 1st gear, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th gear, Reverse gear calculation, Vehicle acceleration calculations, Van Doorne Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), Torotrak Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
Derivation of turning equation - balancing of steering system for commercial and race vehicles (case study on balancing of race and off road vehicle)
CAD designing of vehicle chassis, Weldment structure, Part assembly, Engineering drawing sheets for part fabrication
Rendering tools, Chassis designing parameters - designing & balancing of space frame chassis of race car and ATV
Day 4 & 5: CAD Design Simulation
This will be the implementation of the things that we will learn in above two parts:
Introduction of 2-D sketching 3-D modeling
Ergonomics considerations in designing of a car
Tools & commands of designing, features – Weldments sketch, Evaluate, Office products,
Designing of Tires & Rims
Ride & handling consideration in design
Chassis designing and stress analysis of component
Decaling and rendering of a vehicle
Vehicle fabrication steps and technique
F.E.A – stress analysis on chassis design(space frame of an ATV), Front impact, Side impact and Roll over testing of frame
Thermal simulation of heating components
Engineering drawing sheet generation from part file to fabrication
Engine performance calculations, Effects of changing in intake absolute pressure, Relations between horsepower, cc, Torque, RPM, Various engine efficiencies (Mechanical, Volumetric, Thermal, Relative, Air-standard)
Engine Management Systems
Crankshaft speed position and Camshaft position
Air flow rate
Inlet manifold absolute pressure
Air and coolant temperature
Day 7: Hands On Experience (Practical Session)
In this session participants will get hand on experience on different components of a vehicle:
Practical working of engine & transmission will be experienced by the participants while disassembling and assembling a multi cylinder IC engine
CRDI multi cylinder I.C Engine practical session (Hands on)
Commercial transmission practical (Hands on)
Assembly and disassembly by the participants
Parts working and design explanation
Introduction to “Engineering Design & Race Competitions”
Orientation session on “Scope of Automobile Sector”
